Stonington Community Rowing Center

After two decades of launching from dock space graciously provided by the Mystic Seaport, Stonington Crew will soon have a place to call home. The Stonington Community Rowing Center (SCRC), featuring the Hart Perry Boathouse, will also offer competitive, recreational and adaptive rowing programs for all ages. The community rowing center will feature:

  • A boat bay for Stonington High School Crew
  • An adjacent boat bay for a Stonington Community Rowing Club
  • A common area for indoor training and associated services

With overwhelming support from residents attending a town hall meeting in September of 2016, an idyllic site has been secured by the Town of Stonington. Located off Greenmanville Avenue, the Mystic River Boathouse Park will offer the public scenic views of and non-motorized boating access to the Mystic River. The property will also be the home of the Stonington Community Rowing Center and the Hart Perry Boathouse, honoring the many contributions Hart made to the sport of rowing.

Hart Perry is regarded as one of American rowing’s true patriarchs. Hart was a resident of North Stonington, CT and was one of the most influential figures in rowing in the United States and abroad. Hart passed away in 2011 but not before leaving an indelible mark on the sport. He was a rower, coach, promoter and crew advocate. He helped inaugurate several youth rowing programs over the years, including Stonington Crew. It was Hart's dream to build a community rowing center on the Mystic River.
